KATARAGAMA

Kataragama is the sactred city.
It is of in the south of sri lanka. 288 kilometress a way from colombp.
The manik ganga flows though it. This river is full of fish. But the villages never catch them.
    Many Buddhists go to the kataragama to worshiped   the kataragama god.
Even christions, hindus and Mohammedans visit it. Foreigners too come to this
world famous shrine. It is cold called a forest shrine because there is jungle all around it.
     During the   festive season. Kataragama is full of people. They gather there in their thousands
to participate in the sacred poojas. Some come to   make vows to   kataragama god. Other come to
fultil their vows. Pilgrims travel by bus, van, lorry or car and   camp in the open. But some stay in large
rest rooms or hotels. Pilgrims never fail to bathe in the manik .ganga

THE TAJMAHAL

THE TAJMAHAL

The tajmahal, the white marble mausoleum was constrcreted by the moghul emperor shah jehan
in the 17 centry as a tomb for his beloved wite mumtaz mahal.
It is situated in Agra in Northern India.
It’s not one of the wonders of the world. But it is
one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. The tomb is a perfect
example of Persian style of architecture. This white marble mausoleum is inlaid
with precious stones. It is found in a spacious garden with well kept lawns bordered by
cypress tress and water channels. It’s octagon in shape. The tajmahal is 130 feet at it’s widest
point and nearly 200 feet high to the of the huge dome

DUHINDA WATERFALL

DUHINDA WATERFALL

Dunhinda water fall is the higest water fall on the Badulu oya.
It is 263 metres tall. It is said to be the most wonderful water fall in sri lanka
. It’s water thunders over a ridge pool in the rocks below.
Hence the name “dunhinda” which in sinhala means “spraying” or “vapour waterfall”.
It is indeed a very beautiful sight to view.
Dunhinda falls are located five kilometers north of badulla on the badulla -
taldena road from the road you have to walk a kilometer through a rocky path to view it.
There is a cave near the waterfall. Onece it had been the home of veddhas from bintenne.
There are many but different legends about the dunhinda falls.
One beliet is that a fish with a golden earring lives in the depths of the waters.
Another one is that there is an entrance to a tunnd about 20 to 30 kilometres long
wich was a secret passage used in the olden days.
There are legends behind the tragic deaths of bathers annually at this site.
Thousands of tourists come yearly to view this magniticient waterfall.

Computer are especially usefull for strong a lot
of information. They can keep words pictures and
sounds in there memory and give your required infrmaton
within seconds.
    Even the most advanced computers are often easy to use
. They communicate with you by flashing massage or pictures
on to a screen or sometimes they talk to you. You can play
games with them too.
      You television can become a useful link with computers far ways.
You can find out all sorts of information just by passing buttons
on a remote control fingerpad at home. The information appears
instantly on your televition screen. You can finel out the news,
the weather forecast sports results and travel timetables. Computers
make our lives easier in many ways. Space travel would be inpossible
without computer.

We all need food. Without it, we can not live.
Even animals, birds, reptiles and fish want food to grow.
Food gives us energy. It helps the body to grow,
food aids the body to make strong teeth. Muscles and bones.
It also keeps the body warm. The things in foods that do
all these jobs are called nutrients. There are five nutrients.
They are proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals and vitamins.
There is no single kind of food that contains all the five
nutrients. So you must take a well blanced diet, which will
cantain all these five nutrients. A well blanced diet will keep
you healthy and free of sickness.

Baseball

Base ball is the most popular sport in the united states and is often called its national pastime. It’s game played with a hard ball and bat between two teams of nine players cach.
In a baseball game the two teams take terns at playing. Each of these turns is called an innings and there are nine innings to a game. The play starts when a player called the piteher from one team throws a ball towards the batter a player on the apposing team. A player called the catcher standing behind the batter tries to catch any balls which are not hit by the batter. If the batter strikes the ball. He runs around a series of bases before a player in the field can put hian out. If he completes the full round he scores a hone run. The team that scores the most number of runs at the end of the nine innings are the winners.

The Olympic games

The Olympic games or the Olympic games began ancient Greece in 776 B.c .it was and ancient greek festival held at Olympia every four years to honour god zeas. There were athletic literary and musical competitions. They were only for greek men. Woman were not allowed to participate in them. They were only few competitions then. In acient Olympic games the winners were given wreaths of olive leaves.
Mordern Olympic games too are held every four years but in different venues. The first modern Olympic games were held in Athens in 11896. 2004 olympic games were held in Athens, but sydeny, Australia was the venues of 2000 games. In modern Olympic games many events like athlitics, swimming,soccer, tennis, badminton, boxing gymnastics and judo are held. Gold sliver and bronze medals are awarded to those who get first, second and third places in any events sri lanka has won only two medals so far. In 1948 duncun white got a sliver medal by coming second in the 440 gards hurdle event in London. Susanthika jayasinhe coming third in the 200 metre race won a bronze medal at sudney Olympics.
Let s wish sri lanka get more medals in future Olympics games.

Earthquakes

The temperature at the centre of the earth about 4000 centigrade. As the centre is so hot there is always movement there. The beat makes the inside of the earth more and changed. These changes sometimes make the outside more too. Then it results in an earthquakes.

Earthquakes do not take place in most parts of the world. But in some areas they do accur frequently. These are earthquakes are as, fortunately sri lanka is not in an earthquakes area. Indonesia and japan experience earthquakes frequently.

Some earthquakes are so small that people hardly. Notice anything happerning except the movement of pictures on the wall. But in a major earthquake buildings will crack and fall. Rivers will flood their banks and railway. Electricity and underground pipe lines will get damaged. This will bring a lot of misery and death to the people government will have to spend a huge amount of money to repair the damage.

Field

Our main food is rice. The farmer grows paddy in the fields. We get our rice from the paddy plant. The farmer is a very important man. Because he grows paddy for all. First he loosens the soil of the fields with the help of buffaloes. Then he prepares the field by making it muddy.Paddy grows well in a muddy fields. The farmers adds manure to the field.

The paddy is ripe after three to four months. The farmer is very happy then. He invites his friends to help him. They get together and harvest the field. After harvesting, the farmer brings paddy home.
